Defined, late May edition

This week, I am intrigued with these four words and delving into the nuances and vagaries of applications, how I am reminded of additional meanings as well as clearer about actions and places.

body, noun
:

  1. The physical structure and material substance of an animal or plant, living or dead.
  2. A corpse; carcass.
  3. The trunk or main mass of a thing.

home, noun
:

  1. A house, apartment, or other shelter that is the usual residence of a person, family, or household.
  2. The place in which one’s domestic affections are centered
  3. An institution for people who lack stable housing, who are sick or inform, etc.
  4. The dwelling place or retreat of an animal.
  5. The place or region where something is native or most common.
  6. Any place of residence or refuge.
  7. A person’s native place or own country.
  8. A principal base of operations or activities.
  9. (In games) the destination or goal.
  10. (Baseball) home plate.
  11. (Lacrosse) one of three attack positions nearest the opposing goal.



metamorphose, verb:

  1. To change the form or nature of; transform.
  2. To subject to metamorphosis or metamorphism.


transmute, verb, used with and without object:

  1. To change from one nature, substance, form, or condition to another; transform.
