I was just asked, “Will you send me a list of where you get your news from?” along with an inquiry about how much, when do I read and therefore digest news. I don’t know that I’ll answer the second right now but let me get to making a list, cuz that’s something that I find invaluable. Here’s a list of my top 20.
Where I go read multiple times a week:
- Democracy Now: i read the transcripts rather than click videos
- Drudge Report: the portal to all sorts of news articles, stories, outlets and personalities; I’d guesstimate that 70% US based and maybe 30% beyond US
- Al Jazeera
- The American Prospect
- Labor Notes
- In These Times
The sites I visit a few times a month:
- the 19th News
- Capital B News
- Hammer & Hope
- Native America Calling
- Teen Vogue
- Columbia Journalism Review: for inner layers of journalism and news
- the blog at Verso Books
- Truthout
- And less frequently I read Slate, Vox, and what used to be the alternative weeklies like East Bay Express (CA), Denverite (CO), The Stranger (WA), Williamette Weekly (OR), Indy Press (NC).
