In aikido class this morning, Sensei spoke about ikigai as purpose and listed five parts that compose ikigai:
- start small
- release yourself
- seek harmony
- act with joy
- be with (or in) a state of nakaima (middle present)
As a way to recall these five components, I noted the S-R-H-J-N, which I adapted into the phrase that sandy requests help just now. This is the second time recently that ikigai has been mentioned; the other instance, when listening to a fellow writer last month, included moai; she translated ikigai as meaning (or kuleana) and moai as community (in concert with purpose).
